Coryza, colds, sneezing, coughing are also a plague for our animals and come in various forms.

We can meet them in the context of group life but also during the changing seasons.

For our cats, here are some examples of pathologies encountered:

Feline rhinotracheitis (or coryza or cat flu) is a serious disease, unfortunately very present and very contagious among our pet cats. It is a viral disease of the respiratory system, still very common in cats living in communities (pet stores, shelters, animal boarding kennels, etc.), but also in cats and kittens, in groups or not, in our homes.

It is a pathology that is extremely contagious between felines, without the need for contact between them. It is not contagious to humans, nor to dogs for that matter, even if they can transmit the disease via shoes and paws.

Coryza is most often spread from one sick cat to another, via small droplets filled with germs that circulate in the air following the sneezing of an infected cat. Note that a cat that has caught coryza, even if cured, can remain contagious for several months or even several years! It is therefore a real threat to all other cats.

Coryza results from contamination by several viruses or bacteria which each generate different effects and symptoms in cats:

Calicivirus : fever, fatigue, runny eyes and nose, and mouth ulcers that cause excessive salivation and loss of appetite .

Herpes virus : infections of the nose and respiratory tract.

Retrovirus : watering eyes.

Coryza causes many different disorders depending on the age and health of the cat. Kittens that have not yet fully developed their immune system are most at risk. After an incubation period of 2 to 5 days, symptoms appear: While not all sick cats necessarily sneeze, respiratory signs (sneezing and coughing), discharge from the eyes and nose, fever, loss of appetite and desire to drink are the most common symptoms.

Respiratory tract infection can lead to serious complications such as pneumonia.

As for our canine friends, the flu virus is not the same as in humans, but the symptoms are similar: cough, runny nose, fatigue, sneezing, fever, etc.

Kennel cough

The dog flu virus (kennel cough) attacks the dog's respiratory tract. The infection is highly contagious and can spread from dog to dog through coughing, sneezing, barking and saliva.

It is sometimes difficult to notice the symptoms in dogs with the flu, but it is essential to act to prevent the disease from becoming complicated and causing other more serious ones such as pneumonia.

So here are the main signs to watch out for:

  • a thick, yellow or greenish nasal discharge;
  • persistent or unusual lack of appetite;
  • trembling or chills when it is not cold;
  • lethargy;
  • an increase in body temperature, fever;
  • dry, sticky, or bright pink gums;
  • glassy eyes and/or eye discharge;
  • a persistent cough;
  • constant, disordered sneezing.

Kennel cough is extremely contagious and loves to meet people at dog gatherings (shelters, sporting events, pet stores, etc.). It is characterized by a strong, dry, hoarse cough, and very often with the need to vomit or expectorate. The general condition is sometimes altered with fever.

As for horses, the flu definitely exists too!

The causative agent is a virus (influenza type A) close to the human influenza virus, but no transmission of influenza from horses to humans (or vice versa) has been observed.

The virus is transmitted mainly through respiratory secretions. An infected horse transmits a very large quantity of the virus when sneezing. The virus is not very resistant in the external environment; transmission occurs between horses, through contact between them or by the caregiver and the objects used.

The HOLI RHUBE Kit was created to maintain the animal's respiratory function, support its body in the event of a viral or bacterial infection, help it fight inflammation and pain, and then help it recover.

Our HOLI RHUBE Kit is made up of 4 bottles of 30 ml:

  • HOLIPULMO maintains respiratory function
  • HOLISEP supports the body in case of infection
  • HOLIFLAME to support and adapt the anti-inflammatory and anti-pain response
  • HOLIMIN to promote recovery and convalescence.
